MIDWEST TRIP ARTICLE

The Lafayette High School Chamber Orchestra was chosen to perform at The Midwest Clinic: An International Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 1:15pm. Midwest is where performers and educators from around the world convene for a week in the middle of December in Chicago to share their expertise, talents, experiences and techniques to help others in the field of music education. Approximately 16,000 attend the clinic and are primarily instrumental music educators, performers, composers, clinicians and exhibitors from all 50 states and more than 30 countries. Since the 1st Conference in 1947 Lafayette High School Orchestra is the fourth orchestra to perform from Kentucky.

Lafayette High School Director of Orchestras, Jennifer Grice says, “The invitation to perform at Midwest is a huge honor for our community, school district, Lafayette High School, SCAPA, and orchestra students. This invitation was awarded not only on the performance of the Lafayette Orchestra but on the overall success of the entire music program at Lafayette High School. This is an honor for the entire orchestra program at Lafayette High School because all students played a role in the Chamber Orchestra’s acceptance. This has been a goal of the Lafayette Orchestra program for the past two years and we are very excited to see it come true. We would like to thank all of the alumni and past seniors of the Lafayette Orchestra program. Without you we would not have seen this dream come true. We are honored and look forward to our performance at Midwest on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 1:15pm. If you are unable to travel with us to Chicago please join us for our Midwest Preview Concert on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 8:00pm at the Singletary Center for the Arts. ”

The cost for Lafayette Orchestra to attend and perform at Midwest is approximately $20,000. The Lafayette Orchestra Association is accepting donations and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated. Sponsorship provides an opportunity for area businesses and patrons to show support for the arts and the Lafayette High School orchestra program. This sponsorship is leveled from $500 to over $5,000. All sponsors will be introduced to the Lafayette parents and students at orchestra concerts and events, will receive ads in all orchestra programs, have their business logo added to our website and t-shirts, and for the Maestro level sponsorship music will be provided at one of the company’s events. We also have different levels for patron donors ranging from $15 to over $150.00. If you are interested in corporate sponsorship, being a patron donor or in purchasing an ad for our programs please contact the Lafayette Orchestra Association President, Suzetta Yates at 859-940-1790 or yatestennis@aol.com.

OUR EASIEST FUNDRAISER

You don't have to sell candy bars, popcorn, or raffle tickets. If you shop at Kroger, you don't have to do anything different except pay for your purchases with an Orchestra Gift Card. The orchestra will get a percentage of what you spent! And you can still use your Kroger plus card.

The orchestra will get 4% of your purchases. If 50 orchestra families spent $100 each at Kroger in a month, the Orchestra would get $200 (50 x $100 = $5000 x .04 = $200). If all 120+ families bought all their groceries with an Orchestra Gift Card, the orchestra would obviously get a substantial amount of money. This is an excellent way to raise money for the orchestra, and it is painless and nearly effortless.
