Jennifer Grice, Director

 

Jennifer L. Grice is currently the Director of Orchestras at Lafayette High School in Lexington, Kentucky. Jennifer is also on the adjunct faculty at Campbellsville University. She is currently the KMEA Orchestra Chair–Elect for the state of Kentucky. Mrs. Grice has taught for the past eleven years in Kentucky, Colorado, Texas and Louisiana. Jennifer received her BM in Instrumental Music Education from Arizona State University in 1997. She then attended the University of Louisiana at Monroe and received a MM in Conducting in 1999 and a MM in Oboe Performance in 2000.

Jennifer has performed with the following symphonies: West Virginia Youth Orchestra; Arizona State Conductor’s Orchestra; University of Louisiana at Monroe Symphony Orchestra; Tempe Symphony Orchestra, AZ; Monroe Symphony Orchestra, LA; South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra; Symphonia Frisco, TX; Campbellsville University, KY; and Shreveport Pit Orchestra, LA.

She was the apprentice conductor for the Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra, CO; assisted the Colorado State University Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra; Conductor of Symphonia Frisco, TX. She has been a guest conductor for the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, Colorado State University Symphony Orchestra, University of Louisiana at Monroe Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Concert Band; Arizona State University Conductor’s Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.

Mrs. Grice has been on the faculty at the Music For All summer symposium for three years. She has been a leading staff member for the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy for the past eleven years. Jennifer has been Drum Major for the following organizations: Shady Spring H.S., WV; Arizona State University; University of Louisiana at Monroe; Velvet Knights Drum & Bugle Corps, CA; Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps, IL. Jennifer was the Drum Major for Phantom Regiment when they won the 1996 DCI World Championship. She also won the best drum major award at Drum Corps Mid-West in Madison, WI in 1996.

Jennifer is a member of KMEA, MENC, IDRS, Kappa Kappa Psi, ASTA, and Conductor’s Guild.

Jennifer enjoys traveling, visiting amusement parks, going to concerts, playing tennis, and dancing. She resides in Lexington with her husband and percussionist, Jeff Perry and four daughters Jasmine, Jade, Joy, and Joelle.

 

Fred Speck, Assistant Director

 

Frederick Speck is the Assistant Director of Orchestras at Lafayette High School, where he directs the String Orchestra, coaches chamber music, and assists with the instruction of the other ensembles in the program. A graduate of the University of Louisville, he studied cello with Paul York and conducting with Dr. Frederick Speck. Mr. Speck remains active as a performer, playing with various regional orchestras and chamber ensembles. In addition he is also a staff member with the Kentucky Ambassadors of Music, a program that provides the opportunity for Kentucky's young musicians to tour and perform abroad.
